UMK DONATES 2 MODULAR UNITS TO BENDEL CLINIC
On Friday 14 August 2020 UMK Mine handed over a High Care Covid-19 facility at Bendel Clinic in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality (JTGLM). This facility will increase the capacity of the District to deal with the COVID-19 global pandemic. This high care health facility is fully equipped with 30 fully equipped hospital beds, ventilators, medical equipment, bathrooms and showers.
The commissioning of the units will serve a total of 8 villages surrounding Bendel and will reduce the pressure in Tshwaragano and Kuruman Hospitals. The units will accommodate patients with mild conditions thereby vaialing the ICU beds in the above hopitlas to patients who are in dire need.

The units were handed over to the Health MEC Hourable Maruping Lekwene. In attendance was Kgosi Holele, The Joe Morolong Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Dineo Leutlwetse and the DMRE Principal Inspector of Mines, Mr Tumelo Mateta. The MEC said “We appreciate this qualitative contribution by UMK and truly improving the lives of Bendel and surrounding villages”
UMK’s General Manager Mr. Tribe Bhengu indicated that this decision is in line with UMK’s value of sustainability in that it is convertible to a primary health facility post the Covid-19.
Joe Morolong Local Municipality Mayor also thanked the mine for the donation.“We are looking at high impact projects that will come and be sustainable in the lives of our communities, based on the challenges faced in Joe Morolong.” Said Leutlwetse.
The two fully equiped modular units house 30 beds.
